Where is City Hall and what are the office hours?

City Hall is located in the Municipal building on Morris Street. One block South of Marlette Street and one block east on Morris Street. City Hall is open from 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday.

Where do I register to vote?

Residents can register at City Hall, Monday - Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. You can also call or put in writing that you would like registration material mailed to you or register at the Secretary of State office.

Where do I get an absentee ballot?

Applications for an absentee ballot may be obtained either by phoning 989-635-7448 or visiting the Clerk's office at City hall. Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Holidays: If the following holidays fall on a Monday thru Friday then service will be delayed until Friday (or one day later).

Weekly Composting:
-Leaves in 30 gallon containers
-No more than 50 lbs in weight with a large X on front towards the street.
-Kraft biodegradable paper bags or you can purchase clear biodegradable bags at City Hall.
-Brush and tree limbs under 2" in diameter 3 feet in length and under 50 pound bundles and tied.
-All compost is normal household compost not complete trees or hedges.

Weekly Recycling:
In recycling bin provided.

-Newspaper (no glossy colored inserts)
-Green glass
-Brown glass
-Clear glass
-Tin and Aluminum cans
-#1 and #2 plastic (bottle stock only)
If raining or snow, please save papers until the next week to keep them dry. We cannot take wet newspapers.

Special handling/large items:
No liquid paint
-Paint can only be picked up if the lids are removed and the paint is dried up.
-Should your paint still be liquid, mix it with kitty litter or saw dust and let it dry.

Refrigerators/Freezers, and Air Conditioners
Appliances containing freon will be removed as normal household appliances by calling our office at 877-609-6753 for an appointment. We will subcontract the removal to a licensed individual who will remove the freon and appliance at no cost. This is normal household usage and does not cover four or five refrigerators per year for example.

When does one need a building permit?
Permits are required for the following types of construction: additions (where the structure is being changed or wood is being replaced), new buildings/construction, signs, decks, roofs, windows etc. If you have any zoning questions you can contact the Zoning Administrator Steve Schaub 989-635-7448. If you pull a pre-application with the City and it is approved you then have to take it to the Sanilac County Construction and Land Use Department in Sandusky 810-648-4664.

Where do I obtain a building permit?
Building Permit Applications may be obtained at
City Hall 6436 Morris Street, Marlette, Mi 48453 or the permit can be printed out directly from this site. Any questions can be directed to the City Manager/Zoning Administrator Steve Schaub at 989-635-7448.

How do I pay a parking ticket?
Parking tickets are handled by the Marlette Police Department. You can pay your parking ticket at the Police Department or in the City Hall office across the hall. Read the instructions on the back of the ticket for more information or call 989-635-2008.

We at the City of Marlette are pleased to provide you with this year's Annual Driking Water Quality Report. We want to keep you informed about the excellent water and services we have delivered to you over the past year. Our goal is, and always will be, to provide you with a safe and dependable supply of drinking water.

We want our valued customers to be informed about their water utility. If you want to learn more, please attend any of the regularly scheduled council meetings The meetings are held on the first and third Mondays of each month at 7:00 P.M. in the Council Chamber at City Hall.
